    Panzer Badges, again

    Dear fellow collectors,

Again I am asking your opinion about a G.B. marked PB with 50 engagements (item # Lot #:320077). Quite rare if I might add. As you can see it pretty shows all the details such badge should have: donuts' shaped rivets on the back but not going through the tank, right position of the maker's mark, overall good details of the tank and of the wreath on the obverse, etc. . I am bit bothered with headshape of the eagle. And what about the measurements (Width: 45mm Height: 62mm)? Unfortunately the weight is not mentioned.

    Here the pics:

It would be cool to have the standard measurements of "classical" marked badge type on this website as a reference for all collectors. There are so many variations to get really confused... but this should be easely identified.

I am eagerly waiting your most appreciated comments!

    Ciao,

    Claudio

Enclosed is a photo of a Bronze GB 25 badge that I believe to be correct. Sorry for the size but I wanted to try and help show the details.

    Weight 20.9 Grams
    Height 62.560mm
    Width 46.913mm

    Hope this helps

      Hi Snigley,

How can you measure a badge with that precision (0.000mm). Do you have sort of special measurements instrument? I am wondering...

You didn't comment the badge I posted... what do you think about it? Yours looks very good. What I don't like also of the badge I have shown is the lack of depth on the overall detail, which doesn't seem so crisp as yours.

Comments please... I am trying to learn.

      Ciao,

      Claudio

About the PAB. I have a bronze PAB for 100 engagements in my collection with rivets on the back going through the tank. The badge has been proofen by Detlev Niemann to be 100% original. So there are badges with the rivets going through the tank as well.

          Claudio,

You are a man on a mission. Great!

I agree with all your observations.....what seems right and what seems odd. The shape of the head isn't perfect but could that be a die fault? The only other minor (borderline anal, I know) detail is that your example doesn't appear to have any stops '.' after the G and B. My examples do. I will post them again, only for comparison.

What does this mean? Two sets of dies, worn dies? More confusion, that's for sure.

Claudio, I have a digital vernier caliper and portable gram scale that follow me everywhere. It's just piece of mind for the price of a modest badge.

My GB badge has the dots behind the letters also, they just don't show up well on the scan.

Unfortunately I feel that I lack the experience to make comments on these badges. I'm asking the same questions you are on JFS badges about 20 postings down!

              Mark,

I just posted the PB on sale on Epier, because there is something that doesn't convince me completely about this badge(call it male intuition or just being anal). You are right about the stops after each letter G and B. I have them on my PB in my collection, too. I am only trying to identify if it is possible that there are some first class PB with engagements number on the marked.

I also found it strange that the price (buy it now for "mere" USD 400.-) is too good to be true, almost 100% cheaper if you would purchase it from Detlev Niemann, who is already known by this collecting community as being very honest and fair in his pricing policy.

You can say it, Mark, I am a man on his mission, since I have been burned more than once. It's incredible, but after all these years of collecting I still find from time to time fakes in my collection in my older pieces. Sometimes I have got the feeling I should sell all my 3rd Reich collection and dedicate myself to other periods.

Snigley, where did you buy and how much did it cost you your digital vernier caliper (or caliber)? Is it reliable? Such instruments are critical for getting together important data on known badges and medals features.

Thank you again for your cooperation.

              Ciao,

              Claudio

Jürg: could you post the measurements of your badge as well. They have been surely noted by Detlev on his expertise...
