Both fake. Many old collections have these fakes in them.
    Looking for a 30 '06 Chauchat magazine.

I can only agree with Jeff, both fakes. Not a bad attempt at the unique JFS hardware and rivets but enough small incorrect details to tell you something isn’t right with both.

A lifetime guarantee of originality is only as good as the business is around.

Someone has clearly taken a big loss on the 100 PAB (that would have fooled me)

These Numbered PAB's are one of the badges that give me trouble saying real or fake. The first pictured PAB I judged as fake when comparing to some originals in my data base. I would only buy something this expensive if I knew person selling and oftered a money back policy. I am posting a pic of a 75 PAB that has a tell if real. At first glance I thought color wrong on original PAB.

Both are fakes, these types of numbered assault badges are the best kind of JFS fakes on the market and were sold in big mass as real for years and years!!!

Detlev's certificate itself is original, but back then he probably didn't knew this badge was fake as everyone accepted this.
                Kind regards,
                Giel

Hi John, the badge you posted is a one look original, nothing like the fakes at the beginning of the thread.

Hi Jeff, the pics of the PAB I posted one could probably look for 10 years and not find. Stone cold mint. I read that a sure tell on these badges is the dot above the track about half way down.

This is a hobby that even experts can get fooled.

Love these badges but this is the reason that I no longer collect badges, some of the fakes look better than the originals, that's just my opinion.

Actually badge collecting has never been safer. Armed with the forum and a wealth of superb reference books that have been published in the last 10 years and there is no reason why anyone should buy a fake badge these days.

Yet you’d surprised how many people still get screwed not doing their homework. It’s how people commit to collecting, those that jump headlong thinking they know everything get screwed, and those that take the time to read forums, create personal databases, and so on are more likely be safe in the long run. In this instance having this forum is helpful as well. I’ve met a lot of experienced collectors and the trick is to ask questions because when those advanced collectors are gone there experience won’t be around anymore. Sorry if this post got off topic,

                          Best regards, Martin

Hi Martin, even a lazy idiot can collect badges safely by posting what they are considering buying before they purchase. They will not have enough knowledge to buy anything at a show but any online purchase can be given approval before the deal is completed. If someone wants to build knowledge on badges the info is all there, ready to be taken. Again, I highly recommend the excellent badge books that are available. As expensive as badges are, why not spend some money on a good reference book and learn about what you would like to collect. Just my thoughts.
