    IAB (S) for Assessment

Showing here an IAB (silver class) which has just seen the light of day in many years, as acquired from a German who immigrated to Canada numerous years ago (he was not the recipient of this badge which had been handed-down within the family).

It is of the hollow-back variety with silver-plating and frosting. It appears to have not been worn much, if at all, since - when seen in-hand - the burnished highlights bring out the detail of the oakleaves, eagle, etc. quite nicely. The areas within the swastika arms are solid, whereas the space between the swastika and rifle is open. The hinge (bronze?) and catch are both soldered directly to the reverse. The pin is sharply-pointed. The badge is non-magnetic throughout and is not maker-marked. There is one spot of verdigris on one side of the eagle's wing.

While I am certain that it is a period original piece, I would still appreciate feedback and hopefully confirmation of same, as well as a maker name, if possible.

Thanks for looking. All feedback will be appreciated.

Very nice early S&H and nice little story with it.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
