    Bronze JB&Co IAB

    Hello,
    Picked this up the other day and just wanted to show it here to get your opinions on a defect or repair. You can see on the wreath where there is a small hole on the front and a line showing a partial break. For the life of me I can't tell if it was a factory repair or just a defect in the manufacturing process. I'm leaning to it just being a defect that made it past quality control either because it was overlooked or because the wreath was still stable enough to use. I think the excess material on the reverse was not something added to repair the wreath but just a result of whatever happened to the die that caused the defect. What do you think?

        I've never been good at the technical terms for production, but I think that is a flaw during the process when the obverse and reverse dies were pressed together.

          First time for me seeing this maker. Everything looks good, do the experts agree it is a war time badge?

            This type of production flaw has been observed in the past on PABs as well. Not an issue IMO and a good example by JB&Co

                Thank you, I think both are production flaws and definitely not worried about this being a repro. If it is, then I might as well sell my collection and get out while the getting’s good.

                  Interesting JB&Co. My first thought is repair, but the finish looks intact and correct and have to think it left the factory this way.



                  The hinge looks like its been popped out then forced back in, so that is a little odd. For sure a non-textbook example.

                    Yep, not sure what happened with the hinge but it’s secure and I can’t see where it has been fixed so I think it may have left the factory as is. Really not sure what to make of it but it’s such a hard to find example that I’m not complaining.

                      ......Great looking badge except for the noted defects. I wouldn't put much faith in that one having passed quality control. Perhaps it could be categorized as a factory reject, made close to the end of the war, that eventually made it's way into the war souvenir market. Hard to know one way or the other though.

                        I have an infinity for badges that have field or factory repairs. back in the day they were not a through away society!

                          I agree with Bruce. Might also be the reason the badge is in an outstanding condition with nearly all finish remaining. I also think it never passed quality control!
                          An interesting and despite the repair, a very nice badge Dale!
