    Chrome plated IAB?

I found this interesting IAB today. As far as I can recall, I've only seen this setup on GAB:s before i.e. the hinge, catch and chrome-like luster. It shines even more than on the image. Any ideas out there on this one?

            Hello Peter,

Looks like an original Infantry Assault Badge in nice condition. The finish on the front, the semi-scooped reverse, and the pin, hinge, and catch setup all remind me of those unmarked General Assault Badges that were produced by Rudolf Karneth.
            Best regards! Tom

I support Tom here, the setup is idetical with the one on one of the RK GAB variations. The Deumer link stems from one IAB which has been found stamped with that mark, for whatever reason.
              Cheers, Frank

                Hi Peter,

RK or Deumer, I don't know, but the IAB is genuine imo and these commonly had highly burnished features. The finish on the reverse is typically very poor as well. Whether they were actually chrom-plated I don't know, but the near absence of finish on the reverse of these (certainly nothing like the quality of the obverse) would suggest not to me.

Chrome was not used in this period, but nickle was.

It's possible to selectively plate the base metal on one side only, thus saving nickle. If it's nickle-plated that would suggest early to mid-war production.

Thanks guys. I'm very familiar with the GAB with this setup, that was the first badge I bought in my early days of collecting. And now you've provided the maker .

The chrome suggestion was in referrence to an earlier thread about Herman Aurich PAB. Thanks for clearing that out.

P.S. Awful peak on that eagle D.S.

The LOOK of these finishes is "chrome-like", but of course they are not actually chromed.
However, I do not agree that this finishing method is exclusively early to mid war, as Dave (Frentebro) suggests. Many late war badges can be found bearing this finish, especially some of the late RK GABs produced on the very worn out die.
                      Cheers, Frank
