    Wachtler & Lange Ostmedaille Question

Something that’s been puzzling me for a while now is how come you never see a really good condition or “mint” Wachtler & Lange (100) Ostmedaille?

You see so many almost perfect EK’s and KVK’s from this manufacturer yet their Ost medals are almost always bubbled, corroded and not in great condition.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi,

Its true, most W&L are very "bubbly". But the finish ad coating is often pretty good though.

Well, the base metal, the zink must have been pretty unpure/of bad quality and over time starts to corrode under the finish and coating, creating these little bubbles.

Why the used or had to use bad material, I dont know.
But the strike and workmanship of these W&L OMs are pretty good.

I also find it curious that many/most EK2 look worn, a little battered, little rusty with allot of patina but the W&L shiny mint almost every time.

Here attached two of my better ones...
