    ribbon bars

what is the longest / largest amount of medals observed on a ribbon bar WW1 / WW2? any pictures of them?

    #2
No pics right off hand (sure some of the other guys will post some up), but you will occasionally see the smaller sometimes sewn-on type in 2 rows. German ribbons on top & foreign decorations on the second. Top German officials, KM vets, etc. sometimes wore those.

    Best,

    James

The biggest purely German bars I have is 6. Most bars that cross WW1/WW2 have the commemorative awards from Austria,Hungary,Bulgaria,Turkey, Croatia and the Tyrol that bulk them up.

6's .. and my longest bars including foreign awards ...

            Heya Ian,

Curious what number 3 ribbon w/ the wreath device is on bar number 10? Still trying to learn all these million Austrian ribbons...

Hi James, from memory it's the Austrian Red Cross service award with active service enamel laurel wreath. I've been cataloguing the collection (hence the numbers) so saw this recently.

                    * Found it .. Sorry Nicolas, I hadn't seen your reply

All very nice ribbon bars Ian but Bar 11 with the 2nd class Lowen orden ribbon in the last position is a first for me

                        Great stuff

There are always exceptions and anomalies, but the longest I’ve seen that I can recall might be 12 - 14 decorations per row on a double row bar. Also seen nearly as long in a single row, which would have been cumbersome to wear to say the least.

Most of the time bars represent a percentage of all the decorations a soldier earned for various reasons.

Speaking of long ribbon bars/rare ribbons & devices; here's an old thread by Member Noor, well worth checking out. Some nice rare items shown:
