looks like a polish die that can produce half of the fake badge.

Could be, but the fakes are all two piece like the two prototypes, as in ek and star. The fakes have a one piece ek where as the two prototypes were proper eki s Worth posting in the Crosses forum just for people to see. Surely postwar.

If so, it would have to be a negative, this is a positive so, likely a paper weight.

Me too, an interesting paperweight or ashtray for that ultimate man cave.

IF they were trying to manufacture such an award they would no-doubt follow the same tried and tested construction principals as the German Cross and make the star burst and EK1 as separate components ... possibly even using the die from an EK1 frame and separate core.
