    Medals with Packets

    Hi guys,

I have always liked medals in issue packets, so I grabbed these up at the Wilmington Show this weekend. They are nothing out of the ordinary but I feel they were bargain-priced at $25 each so I wasn't about to pass them up. And for $25 I wasn't about to nitpick on whether or not they are actually matched sets.

    Best regards,
    Tom

The Westwall packet has the look of the typical and prolific, late-war packet by Carl Poellath of Schrobenhausen. However, this one is marked to Moriz Hausch A.G. of Pforzheim. I really like Westwall packets when they are by a maker other than Poellath.

Here is the medal that came in the packet. Unfortunately there is no ribbon in the packet. The medal is the late-war, zinc type and I was surprised to see that the suspension ring is maker-marked.

I was even more surprised when I saw that the suspension ring is marked '127' which is the Lieferant code number for Moriz Hausch.

It is kind of hard to make it out but it is definitely 127. These are the best images I could get for the time being. It looks like this suspension ring was always with this medal but I suppose the possibility also exists that someone removed the ring from a Hausch marked KVK2 and then put it on the Westwall. But it also stands to reason that if Hausch was marking the rings of their KVKs they would be using the same exact suspension rings for their Westwall Medals. I really do believe this is a matched and unmessed with set.

          Here is the 1939 KVK2 w/o Swords:

The packet is marked to Friedrich Keller of Oberstein, but the medal itself is marked to Klein & Quenzer so for sure an unmatched set here.

Here is the 1939 War Merit Medal:

The packet is marked to Gustav Brehmer, Markneukirchen while the medal itself is unmarked. Perhaps a matched set, perhaps not.

              Here is the 1939 KVK2X:

The packet is marked to Philipp Türk's widow in Vienna and the medal is unmarked. This may or may not be a matched set.

Nice haul, Tom. I too love packeted medals but try to stick to only Gablonzers these days. But at $25 apiece I would have snapped them up as well.

                  Hi Dale,

Thanks for responding. Here is my favorite Gablonzer with packet:

                  Děkuji a jsem s pozdravem,

                    I can see why.

Love the finish on the bronze IAB & PAB; really something special!

Nice to see that non-Poellath Westwall packet/set.

Here's one I ran across a few years back:
