    Single Medals to Parade Mount

Has anyone attempted to take single medals and convert them into a parade mount? I have five single medals that I would like to attempt this with but I am unsure if it will work. Any suggestions on how to complete this task or is this an accident waiting to happen? The medals are: 1939 IC2, War Merit w/ Sword-2, East Front, Army Long Service- 4 yrs, and West Wall medal.

    Thanks,

    John

NEVER snip up original materials for ANY reason!!!

With the exception of the 1941/42 Russian Campaign Medal, any of those can be found as ORIGINAL single parade mounted medals simply by patiently cruising dealer sites and shows.

But WHY singles? Singles are boring and tell no "story" about the original owner's career!

        Hello John

Are you going to mount these all together or just as single mounts? I would strongly recommend you leave your medals as they are, if you are unhappy with them you might consider selling these or trading and finding a nice Third Reich medal bar. It will not take much effort to find a real piece of history, once you alter these you destroy their value and more importantly their historical significance. If you wish to mount these for a display you might consider obtaining some repo ribbons for these and then mounting them that way, at least then you can remove the repo ribbon and they are still original. I always try to keep my medals in the same condition as they came to me, this includes not cleaning, repairing or otherwise altering them. However each to their own.

Yes, I wanted to convert them to a 5-piece bar and have them framed. Good Idea on the repro ribbon, that is an option I didn't think of but will explore.
