    Ostmedaille with pouch - opinions

    Hi guys,

Just received this Ostmedaille with pouch. The medal is unmarked but the pouch is marked "Hauptmunzamt Wien 40" which I don't understand because their Präsidialkanzlei number was 30 right?

Would love to see your opinions!

For some reason the attachements don't work...
Will try again tomorrow... Maybe it's the forum

      Hello,

Yes! The '30' was assigned to Hauptmünzamt Wien as its official supplier number to the chancellery. The '40' has nothing to do with the supplier number but is a subdivision number within the City of Vienna where the mint was located. It is completely normal to see Hauptmünzamt Wien 40 on paper packets for East Medals, Wound Badges, etc. There are also some packets and especially labels on boxed and cased medals/badges that read Hauptmünzamt Wien III. (The III. signifying the 3rd administrative district within the City of Vienna.) And the mints street address is Am Heumarkt 1, so Hauptmünzamt Wien III./40 Am Heumarkt 1. The street address will not be found on the packets and labels, though.

      Best regards,
      Tom

                        Hello,

All is explained about the “Wien 40”.
The medaille and pouch are in very nice condition, I really like them but they are not a “set”. This OM is not a OM30.
