    SS-Obersturmführer's Ribbon bar - help!

    Hi guys,

My first post in this section and a new area of discovery for me.

I have posted a photo of an SS-Obersturmführer from the LSSAH Panzer Regiment in April/May 1943 wearing certain awards. The Infantriesturmabzeichen and the wound badge are clear, as is the EK II ribbon on his lapel.

If anyone can confirm the medals indicated by the ribbon bar it would be most helpful.

    Thanks
Steve (unable to post photos here, sorry)

Hi Steve, left to right .. EKII (1939), Long Service Ribbon (no eagle or runes device), 13th March 1938 Medal (Austrian Anschluss), 1st October 1938 Medal (Sudeten Annexation) with Prague Bar.

    Cheers, Ian.

      Thanks

      Hi Ian

Thanks very much for your thoughts, it seems I was correct!

I have been trying to ID this man for some years for my book project on the 9th (Pionier) Kp/SS Pz Rgt 1. These small details might help narrow the field. Interesting that there is no Ostmedaille for this man.

      Thanks again

      Cheers
      Steve

The photo may be from before mid '43 when the Ost Medaille was received ?

          Hmm one interesting side point.

The SS 4-year was only for NCOs and men so we know this chap was in the SS as an NCO/MAN at least 4 yeard before he became an officer.

So we know he was commisiend from the ranks.

Also it is odd he is has both the button-hole ICII and a ribbon ICII.

The LS ribbon could come from the RAD or Police in theory.

              Thanks

              Thanks gentlemen,

This photo is from April/May 1943 near Kharkov.

Another member of the Kompanie (3rd Pi Btl, LSSAH, later in November 1942 to become the 9th Pioinier, SS-Pz Rgt 1) received his Ostmedaille in August 1942. Would all the men from the same Kompanie have received the award around the same time?

Yes, I believe the man was either with the LSSAH or SS-VT Pionier Bataillon as a NCO in the early years, just trying to narrow down some options.

              Thanks once again
              Steve
