    Medals from OVMS

    Hi guys,

Here are a couple of medals I bought at the OVMS Show this weekend.

    Best regards,
    Tom

I picked up this 50-Year Faithful Service Decoration in pretty nice condition. It looks to me like a Deschler, although the suspension ring is not marked.

This Gold Mother Cross was the last thing I bought at the show before heading home. It was really clean and cheap.

I was happy to find this Bronze Merit Medal to the Order of the German Eagle. It has been at least a decade or more since I owned one of these. It is zinc and maker marked to the Vienna State Mint.

The best thing about this medal is that it came with the original issue packet. (I most likely would have passed on the medal had it not been for this packet.) I probably paid more than I should for this set but sometimes that's the way of it in collecting.

Here is the packet designation: This is an early packet, made at a time when the Merit Medals to the German Eagle only existed in silver. (The Bronze Merit Medal wasn't instituted until 1943.) The packet was modified by stamping "Bronzene" on the front, between Deutsche and Verdienstmedaille. A fine example of how things were repurposed rather than thrown away.

              Very nice additions.

              My favourite being the 50yr.

Here is the maker marking on the packet reverse: The early Silver Merit Medals to the German Eagle were typically made by the Prussian State Mint in Berlin and the 1943 Bronze Merit Medals were typically made by the State Mint in Vienna. This early packet was altered by inking out the Prussian State Mint marking and stamping the Vienna State Mint marking above.

Same. Was fortunate to pick one of these up recently. Really like these.

Also bought this DRL Sport Badge by Hermann Wernstein. I like the reddish-colored patina on this example.

I bought this 50-Year back in March of this year. This one is marked to Deschler. The silver finish has a dark patina but I really like the look of this one.
