Do we know exact names for each folding styles, please?
From left to right:
- Old Prussian style (trapezoidal mount), often referred to in period catalogs as "glatte Dekoration" [smooth/straight mounting]; another type of "glatte Dekoration" was the single-length "ribbon bar-like" style of mounting.
- Prussian parade mount-/Third Reich-era style (arched ribbon mount), often referred to in period catalogs as "krause Dekoration" [frilled mounting].
- Saxon style (pentagonal mount).
- Bavarian style (folded/bloused mount), described by Doehle as "gebauschtes Band" [puffed-out ribbon]*.
- Austro-Hungarian style (triangular mount), usually referred to in German as "Dreiecksband" [triangle ribbon], described by Doehle as "dreieckig gelegtes Band" [ribbon mounted in a triangular shape"]*.
Generally, any full-sized medal bar (irrespective of the mounting style) was known as "große Ordensschnalle" [large medal bar] or, in catalogs, as "große Dekoration" ["large mounting"].
*) "Die frühere bayerische oder österreichische Trageweise des gebauschten bzw. dreieckig gelegten Bandes ist nach den Anzugsordnungen der Wehrmacht nicht mehr gestattet." ["The former Bavarian or Austrian manner of wearing with a puffed-out ribbon or, respectively, a ribbon mounted in a triangular shape is no longer permitted by the armed forces' uniform regulations." However, these regulations were not always obeyed.]Last edited by HPL2008; 05-08-2019, 02:24 PM.

Just find the 'Prussian' style with it's particular fold technique and cloth backing more attractive. (Also much easier to tinker with that style where you can just unhook the medals.)
