    Medal certificate question

Hey, I have the opportunity to purchase this diploma, which one is the medal that would fit for it? It was issued to a Bulgarian feldwebel.
Also, is 65 Euro (75$) too much for that?

      Hi there,

No! This would be the medal that goes with the document: The Order of the German Eagle- Medal of Merit in silver (Deutsche Verdienstmedaille).

      Best regards,
      Tom

        Hello again,

The folder is certainly good and, as best as I can tell from the photos, the document looks good too. The embossed seal, Otto Meissner signature, and the general layout of the document all conform to the originals. Also, the fact that this is to a foreigner is a good sign as these were never awarded to Germans. Is the paper heavy parchment? These documents are pretty scarce so $75 would be a very good price in my opinion. If an in-hand examination confirms this document is genuine you should definitely grab it up.

The 1942 award date would indicate that this is for the Merit Medal in Silver as the Merit Medal in Bronze wasn't instituted until 1943. And since the document does not specify "with swords" this is for the Merit Medal in Silver without swords as pictured in my first post.

        Best regards,
        Tom

          One final point:

If you are looking to get a medal that is a perfect match to the document, you will need to find one of the 1937-1942 type. It will be struck in genuine silver, have silver content and maker markings on rim to either the Prussian or Vienna State Mint, and have Gothic script on the reverse. The 1943-1945 type was primarily in zinc and had Latin script on the reverse.

          Best regards,
          Tom

Many thanks Tom, it is out of my area of interest, but this was an excellent and thorough explanation on your part!
            Thank You!
