    Hi Tom

Nice birds in that box too! I'm familiar with the top left 1st class and the 2nd class on the bar (I have both of these SEs) but not the 1st class marked enamelled one...Do you have closer head on pict of that one if its not too much trouble?

    Thanks

      Hi JC,

Here are some old pictures of the enameled Silesian Eagle. It is maker-marked, "Max Reich, Breslau".

      Best regards,
      Tom

Here is the rest of the grouping that goes with the medal bar and Silesian Eagles. He was a Flieger-Stabsingenieur by the name of Johannes Heinzel.

I have even one ground dug example! It is very interesting ground dug found as it was found on 1945 escape route here in Czech Republic. Very rare find in that area and year.

Thank you for the additonal pictures Tom: much appreciated!

New and unusual enamelled variant for me that I will add to my archives. So far all the enamelled SEs I have encountered have a cloisonné "pupil eye" (as per attached pict of mine) but on this one its solid silver like the rest of the detail. The certificate is also very nice and "à propos" with its yellow border that matches the ribbon

                Thanks again

Bar looks good to me, and many WW1 vets had only the 4 year LS, including my uncle.

Not as common as loose ones but not that rare actually. I missed a number of them before I got lucky a few times. Like pretty much everything else you find them as singles because in addition to custom bars, medal and tailor shops kept single mounts on display to promote & sell their wares, as did manufacturers (e.g.: catalogs etc.)

You also find these as single mounts because they were removed & replaced on medal bars by the owners either because they had banned devices (swords and or wreaths after '35), or upgraded to later fancier versions (brass, enamelled versions etc). You also find singles because someone ripped a long bar apart to get at special items they needed and the more common stuff winded up as "collateral damage"...

                      Here is another one

No problem as long as you dont take "anything to the bank" (too seriously) and try to reach your own conclusions because a lot of it is guess work/assumptions
based on what you see and I'm sure you know what people say about assumptions right?

Hope the book is what you were looking for but wether singles or long bars there are a lot of similar traits to both types

                                cheers
