    Hi Jeff,

I nearly bought an Afrika medal exactly like you describe from Carsten Baldes site several months ago. The only reason I did not .. was I noticed that the ribbon was sewn onto itself on the pendant loop and only one piece of ribbon extended upward.

The medal looked ok from my standpoint. mrg concurred that it was a good one. It also had a safety pin attached to the ribbon.

I see the medal is no longer on his site for sale. You didnt get it form him did you?

No, that was not me. I have had this for a number of years. Here it is, this is two sided folded over and sewn at top.

I would be skeptical too. That could mean recycled ribbon.
PS - I think that 90% of the Afrika and Memels are bad.

My long ago deceased Uncle brought back an Afrika Medal from WW2. I have not seen it for decades. I would sure love to see it again to determine what characteristics it has.

My Aunt has all this stuff tucked away somewhere, hopefully not lost

I see from Jeff and Alex that there are two types that I discuss in the Afrika Medal Thread I started.

Hi Darrell, sorry for the late reply, the memel and the Afrika medals are hard to determine what is real and fake (unless of course of poor quality), and as time has progressed more and more VARIATIONS have come in over time and have been accepted. Because these are not popular awards fakes tend to come in somewhat unoticed and what is real and fake gets somewhat blurred. That was the main reasons for my selling of the awards. All the best.

P.S concerning the ribbons I personally would not get too hung up on these as long as the medal is correct. However i must admit that ilike the genuine worn examlpes myself.
