I was able to see the marking, 835 P M Bn or something like that. Silver marks from the mint.

It should be 835 PR.M.BLN. (Preussische Münze Berlin = Prussian Mint, Berlin). And a halfmoon before 835.

Aproximatly 10 years ago the market was flooded with excelent copies of this medal. The clue to these are the markings on the rim and details around the eagles neck. I published my findings on GCA but unfortunatly don’t have access any more.

In short, don’t take any chances on these.

          Cheers Thomas

              Hi Thomas,

I have read your earlier findings over on GCA and Jonny’s example certainly has issues including the “bump” on the back of the eagle’s neck where the first row of feathers start as well as the lower leaves on the reverse being too well defined.

This certainly looks like one of the fakes you identified at the time.

              Sorry Jonny.

This is my absolute favorite TR medal. I cannot see any problems, especially if there is a hallmark on the rim.

Mr Bandy, can you please share with us that entire bar?!?!

                  Paul,

Compare the eagles neck and the lower layer of oak leaves with the probable copy shown in posts #1 & 2.
