1. Silver Cleaner(liquid) - Wait for a medal 'in the solution'.
Time varies depending on the degree of discoloration.


2. Ajona Toothpaste + a toothbrush or hand.
This makes silver shine more.

Hi Heinz,

Patina/toning is normal on these silver plated items and now its gone...None of my business I agree! In any event it must have been some very "heavy duty" toothbrush (maybe a wire wheel buffer?) because now the surface still doesnt look new: it looks scratched!

Its rare I ever have to clean a medal I like to leave them alone because there's nothing wrong with patina.I had to clean a 4 year service medal recently because it was covered in black tar,I knew this when I bought it but was inexpensive.I gave it a clean with a soft bristeld tooth brush and some glue remover and got a decent result without causing any damage.In general don't clean them IMO.

I had a kvk & an Ost medal years ago from a local antique store, both with some corrosion, and per the guys on here used the vaseline treatment on them to stop zinc pest, with very good results. In some cases, something might be required to stop actual damage, but beyond that I agree it's usually best to leave well enough alone.

nice medals and spange! I prefer authentic medals so I keep patina on them but in this case the cleaning looks well!
