    Possible Fake Cast Grubenwehr Medal

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=972997

I think this award looks to be a cast copy.

    Ian.

Or it could just be a very poor strike.

      The ribbon looks believable.

There appears to be pitting to the flat areas on both sides … but you could be right of course Stan.

The edges, the pits, the lack of details on the high points all make me dubious which is why I brought it up for discussion.

        Cheers, Ian.

I don't know where you see pitting but I have the medal in hand, and even under magnefication I can't see pitting.

It looks like a coin in hand (as it should be) with the edge as it should be.

It has a nice weight to it, and is for sure no casting.

Looks the same as the one I had before (with heavy patina)

Chris, why not just post clear photos of the subject piece ? It may be fine but from the blurry shots on the sale thread there look as though there COULD be pits to the left of the text and the right of the eagle.

For the record the subject piece is nothing like the one you posted pics of on this thread, look at the suspension ring ...

AS Chris hasn't posted better shots and has pulled the medal from sale here are the shots from the advert and the areas of interest ..

                The obverse

                Reverse

and what could be a copper coating rubbing through on the eyebrow of the eagle ... my original also has this. It's a shame Chris doesn't just post better photos ??
