    luftwaffe eagle device

    Hello,

I'm Rik from the Netherlands and I just discovered the world of militaria.
I recently visited a militaria show and bought this luftwaffe (double)eagle device.
Not knowing what it was but it just looked nice.
I've spent a lot of time trying to discover what it is.
I came across this site and now I think I'm getting close

    Here some pictures:

I think it were two single luftwaffe devices for a ribbon- or medalbar that are solded together. One has a gold look and one a silver.

What do you guys think about this?
And not very unimportant, are they real?

    Thanks!

    Rik,

I believe you are correct in your assessment......

Hi Rik & welcoome to the Forum

your birds look OK to me as well for the smaller version used on ribbon bars as per Ron's great picture. I cant say I have seen many 1st (or second) pattern luft birds attached together like yours but its a very common practice for Heer/KM style eagles (because of the wider wing span)

      Nice find

        Thx Ron and JC!

So there are different lw bird patterns?
Where can I find an overview of the different patterns?

Any ideas on how or where my birds were worn?

Some fundamentals of the TR’s symbolism: the Luftwaffe nat’l emblem introduced first in 1935 (first or early pattern) ) has a droop tail. In 1937 it was replaced by a second and definitive pattern, the tail protruding backwards.

As Marco indicated yours are the first pattern eagles.

As far as I know, only the first pattern eagles were used for medal bar and ribbon bar devices.......

              Both thx again!

And what about the different colours/finishing (gold / silver)?
Are they for different medal- or ribbonbars?

                  Silver/gold denotes different (service) years:

Couple of examples on (Tom's) medal bars:

                  25/12

                      Hi Ron

I found this medal bar picture in my archives...I remembered seeing a few 2nd pattern luft eagles on ribbon bars and medal bars over the years but agree they are not as common as the first type (droop tail)

                      Regards

                      JC
