Italo-German medal colouration?

I just recieved an Italo-German Afrika campaign medal from what I now understand to be a less than trustworthy dealer. I was wondering if it is a repro or not. The thing that concerns me the most is that the bronze finish is not even accross the entire medal. It appears to be thinner and darker around the edges of the raised areas. Since I am not very experienced in this area I was wondering if someone could let me know if this is normal.

Hi Adam, there are two types of German/italo medals the first type is made from Bronze so what you describe would be unusual for this type of award. The second type is made from Zinc with a Bronze wash so what you describe would be ok for this type. However i would not go off coulour alone as there are other factors to determine fakes. I would advise that you either do a search or if possible post some pics and let the forum decide. Hope this is of some help. All the best. Forget to say welcome to the forum
