    Adolf Galland's Ribbon Bars

Are the whereabouts of Adolf Galland's wartime ribbon bars known? It seems he had two 5-place bars worn most often: one "standard" size with the ribbons slightly out of order, and a "compact" size with the ribbons in the proper order.

Just curious as I know of one matching the compact bar (I'm aware Galland's particular award ribbons are not unique to him).

    Hi Scott,

I have checked my files and if they’re out there I have not come across them yet.

As you say, the combination is not unique so if they did appear the provenance would need to be good.

    Kind regards
    Pierce

Thanks Pierce. I assume his military effects are probably with his family, but wasn't sure. The owner of the bar I saw made no claims of who the original owner was. I just happened to recognize it matching the one in the photo on the right above (ribbon order and 'compact' size), and got curious.

Hopefully not an inappropriate deviation in this thread, but I admire Adolf Galland and the old world gentlemanly way he conducted his role in the war. His treatment of Douglas Bader as a POW and the lifelong friendship they had after the war says a lot.
