I'm assuming this to be a 1st model sports badge with the serial number "misplaced" on the inside instead of the outside rim..... At first glance I believe this could be the answer to the question. However, I could be mistaken and this could be some type of "membership" number to an organization like the NSDAP or SS. I would go with the former over the latter....

          Hi,

there were three types of this badge, differs by the inscription at center:
          - Eigentum d. Chefs d. Ausbildungswesens (1933-34)
          - Eigentum D.S.A. Sportabz. Hauptstelle (1935-39)
          - Eigentum d. obersten SA-Führung (1939-45)

Type 1 and 2 occur often with the serial or awarding number. On most badges the number is placed on the back of wreath. But Christian Lauer pieces had some empty place under the inscription at center - and on your badge the number was stamped here. But I have also seen a Lauer badge with the number on the wreath, too.

          regards
          Tomasz

              Hi Jacques,

Very nice first-pattern SA Sports Badge. And very interesting to see the serial number on the back of the sword.

              Best regards,
              Tom
