    Long Service Bar

    Picked this bar up recently.

For me a win win situation.

I collect LS Medals and didn't have a Customs Medal so I killed 2 birds well actually 3 birds with one stone.

    A really nice bar.

Yep Lovly bar. I know tripple dipping (3 LS medals) was allowed according to the regulations but you do not see this combination (4,8) very often.

Minor correction....the bar has a 4 and 12 year LS medal. There was no 8 year LS award. The regs required the 4 and 12 year to be worn together so one normally sees this combination on a bar.

                  Nice and minty bar!

Question about the awarding of the Customs Award.

I thought I read somewhere that if you were a Border Guard you were given this medal after 4yrs service.

If you were one of the people behind the counter so to speak it took 8yrs of service to be awarded this medal.

                        True?

                          Hi Wayne,

You are correct. Uniformed officials were awarded the decoration after four years of service. Civilian employees had to serve for eight years.

                          Best regards,
                          Tom

Yes, just checked it myself ...

                              J. Angolia. For Fuhrer and Fatherland Political and Civil Awards of the Third Reich (updated) page 171 ...

Following a Fuhrer order of 17th February 1939, the Reich Minister for Finance was authorized to award the newly instituted Customs Service decoration for loyal service. While only a single medal was awarded, it was awarded in two degrees - one for the clerks of the Customs Service, and the other for high administrative officials and uniformed Customs officials performing border duty. Four years of service were required for the uniformed officials to be eligible, while eight years were requisite for civilians performing civil service functions in connection with the Customs Service. The award could also be rendered for especially meritorious service in connection with the Customs Service.
