Hey guys, just wanted opinions on whether or not you can ever trust a medal grouping unless of course it was purchased direct from the vets family. Even then though when the group is eventually sold on how will you ever know for sure if the medals match the documents. Also why in some groupings is it that often the more important awards are missing. I can understand that a medal may have been lost for numerous reasons over the years etc but if the group comes with all documents of other awards and only the most important award and its document is missing is this significant?
I guess buying a medal group which has all the relevant documents is safer than buying just a collection of medals which could have been made up by the less scrupulous out there. Of course there are also dealers that may acquire just a collection of documents from a family that the soldier may have sent home. The medals may be lost and then add the medals claiming that the group is authentic and then you can never ever really know for sure. Its a minefield isnt it?
What are others thoughts
