    Ostfront medal

    Hi all,

I was looking at this marked (No. 19) ostfront, I'm not sure about it as some of the details seem lacking especially around the wreath as well the numbers, but I can't tell if the finishing is to blame or not.

Measurements are ok but weighs in at 17grams, also there is a faint line along the edge which looks somewhat like a casting mark.

I think i got it in a job lot years ago, but would appreciate another verdict so i can look about replacing it or not

    Thanks.

    Hi

IMO its a good one, a little rough around the edges but otherwise fine

The OM19 does not have many striking features to go by, but weakly struck "Lorbeere" leaves on the reverse and the bigger tilted backwards "2" are good signs

      Hello,

Despite the sandpaper texture, I think it is an original East Medal by E. Ferd. Wiedmann, only heavily oxidized. It does not appear to be a casting to me. IMO it is a die-forged piece.

Here are pictures of another E. Ferd. Wiedmann East Medal from the following thread. This one is in much nicer condition, but the details look the same as yours.

      Best regards,

Thanks guys for the input, I can see the similarities shared with the other example, despite the finishing.

        Thanks again.
