Yours is a later version that is 'original' but it is not
manufactured from Brass/Bronze. It is a "zinc"
composition used.

The pin is the proper length for this one & there
is a Base plate under the pin catch.

Hello,

I am not getting a good feeling about the badge in question. In the first place, it appears to have the wording 'Eigentum d. SA-Sportabzeichen Hauptstelle' on the back of the sword. That would make it a non-serial numbered, second-pattern SA Sports Badge of the type awarded between 1935 and 1939. It would not be a late type SA Defense Badge. IMO this type of badge should be struck from iron, not zinc, and it should be magnetic. I don't know what the badge in question is made of, but it doesn't look like iron. I have never seen an SA Sports or Defense Badge in zinc that I would consider original, except for the SA Defense Badge for War Wounded. Also, the hardware on this badge is not what I am used to seeing on original SA Sport Badges, especially the catch and catchplate which looks very odd.

I just went through my collection and dug out two more second-pattern SA Sport Badges by Berg & Nolte.

This is another non-serial numbered second pattern. It weighs 17.0 grams and measures 58.15mm high x 45.58mm wide.

Here is an interesting trait that I never really took notice of before. All three of my Berg & Nolte badges have the same two tool marks on the pin.
