Identifying KM pin and ribbon bar.

    Hello,
I was just looking at the photo of Oberleutnant zur See Hans-Gerold Hauber on U-boat net (reproduced below - apologies for the small size) and was wondering if anyone can identify the ribbons on his bar? The one to his right appears to be the EK2, but I can't make out the other. Also does anyone have any thoughts as to what the pin (?) above the top button of his tunic near the EK1 might be? Finally I don't suppose anyone has a higher resolution copy of this photograph and the other of Hauber on the U-boat net site that they would share? I have the (different) photos that are on Ratsibon's site.
    Many thanks
    Keith

D'oh! Answering my own question in part. The second ribbon should be the Sudetenland medal, though my eyesight isn't great and the photo is awful. Any thoughts either way? The "pin" is still a mystery to me.

      Hi Keith,

I think that "pin" is just his top button seen edge-on because of a wrinkle in his uniform.

      Best regards,

Thankfully not a previously unknown combat badge. John

FYI, ribbon bars have their own forum here under General Awards. John

Thanks Norm and John. Norm, I'm sure you're right about the "pin" - I'll definitely have to get new glasses (actually I think its the eyes that need replacing).
John, sorry if I posted in the wrong place. Rather than spam the forums, I'll leave it for a while, and if I don't receive any replies about the bar in the next week or two I'll rewrite the query and post it in the ribbon bars thread - which I didn't know existed. Regards Keith

              Obviously a button seen edge-on
              Cheers,

I'd say EK2 and Sudenten medal for the ribbon bar. And as said the edge of the button, you can see the button on the lower left of the photo angled in a similar way.

Thanks for that. Agreed on the button - definitely - and I thought an EK II as well, though I'm still not sure about the Sudetenland medal. I would have thought in a low resolution black and white photo like this a Sudetenland medal would basically appear as one broad black stripe, one broad lighter stripe, and another broad black stripe, which doesn't seem to fit the pattern seen. Does anyone else have any thoughts on it? Best regards K
