    40 year Service Medal Heer

    Hello all

A 40 year service medal from the Army, in very nice condition.

I am not a fan of the open type wreath.

      Medal is a nice original.

        Really?!

The medal was bought from a reputable swedish dealer, who purchased an entire collection from a knowledgeable norwegian collector.

I never found any good information about this award online or in any of my books.

And every other 40 year medal I have seen has the same type of wreath?

I'm not saying you are wrong, by all means. I just want to learn..

Bytown: Let me see if I get this right.

Open type wreath reffers to the small openings between the ribbon and the leafs?

Are these type of wreaths considered fakes?

By open wreath I mean the space between the top of the ribbon and the bottom of the leaves.

There are period catalogues that have been posted on the forum that show only the closed type of wreath.

I have 2 or three of these open types(loose) in my collection of LS awards that when compared with the closed type do not measure up.

The open type can be found on the 57 versions of the 25 year award also.
I have one of this type in my collection.

Like I said I do not like them for being original.

Then again that's just my opinion.

Thank you for the info, and for sharing your experience on this Bytown.

I did find some good threads on here regarding this, since I got a better understanding of what to search for.

As far as I understand, there is no consensus on these. And they are controversial.
However, the facts you are presenting does sound convincing.

                      That would be great :-)

I do not have the medal with me atm, but I will get to take some better pictures on Thursday.

                        One other thing.

Can you tell me if the ends of the prongs on the back of the wreath are pointed or flat?

Ron's type is the only version I would accept in my collection.

                          cheers
