On 2.11.1937 his convocation to the 4th company of the infantry regiment 3 took place.
As a freighter and leader of a heavy grenade squad, he took part in the French defeat and as an petty officer on the Russian campaign, where his unit was deployed in the northern section.

With this division, he fought in March 1943 in the Donets area, where he earned the ccc in bronze.
On 06.06.1943 he was promoted to sergeant and now led a heavy grenade squad.
After the reorganization of the 276th Grenadier Division in France, Strojek was deployed in Normandy. Here, Strojek became a platoon leader in the 4th / Grenadier Regiment 986, whereby he was submitted for the acquisition of the knight's cross.
As an Oberfeldwebel meanwhile with the melee clang in silver awarded it on 22.02.1945 in American captivity. He was awarded the knight's cross on 17.03.1945.

The photo of him seems to show the Knights Cross airbrushed in, which makes sense according to the last part of his bio....

"As a staff sergeant, in the meantime, with the close combat clasp in silver he gets on 22.02.1945 in American captivity. He got the knight's cross afterwards on 17.03.1945. Helmut Strojek passed away on 19.11.1999 in Berlin."
