    Azad Hind Medal Opinions please

    Postwar medal?

    #2
You need to post a photo of the edge of the medal.

Post war???? The Azad Hind awards were given out until 1961.

Were they produced pre or post 1945? That is a question that nobody I know can answer.

That is also the reason why I have never owned one.

Souval produced all Azad Hind awards from institution intil 1961, when the Free India Committee was disbanded.

I believe your posted example is one of the earlier wqrtime steikes in tomback with the swords finished on the obverse only. Later awards, with swords that were made of zinc, had the swords finished on both sides as a way of using alktered dies to make the fragile sinc swords more sturdy.

After 1961, Souval started selling collector copies that were inferior and as dies became worn, began casting the cooies.

Up to 1961, all the star crosses were marked by Souval, on the round backplate. In the 1970s, there was a revival of collector interest and Souval started to make them again, but without the Souval marked disc.
