    German - Italien Medal Opinions

    Hey guys,

Whats your opinions of these three German-Italien Medals.

    1. Are the ones with the mm on the right side of the medal more rare?

    2. Do the Ribbons appear to be too new? Or are there examples like this?

HI Darrell, the afrika medals with the mm to the right are considered fake by most collectors myself included. Fakes with the mm to the right were in circulation for a while though in white metal. The ribbon for the first TWO as you say look a little to new. My own two are very much soiled as like the other examples i have seen. The other problem i have with these two is the top tower seems to touch the rim of the medal which was an idication of an earlier fake. The third medal is the one i like the most as the symbol opposite the swaz is straight and the detail looks there. MM hard looks as if it would be clearly defined . Have to say thou the top tower on this also looks like it toughes the top. The two examples i have do not have this feature. Hope this is of some help.

          mrg,

Thanks for the pointers, but I'm a little confused. There are 6 medals posted. The top three have pretty new ribbons. You are leary of the newish ribbons (me too). You mention the mm on the right are regarded as fakes. That would rule out Medal # 3 and # 6 (counting from top). Yet you mention medal # 3 is the one you like the best. Which one is that counting from top down.

If mm on right are fake and the ribbons on top ones are too new .. only # 4 and # 5 would be regarded as real by you?

          Thanks,

I would sure appreciate some more comments. I can't believe no one wants to offer comments on these pretty common medals

Ribbons with strong green as opposed to the faded green ones are in most cases fine as well. My father earned the Italian/German Afrika medal and his original (German) ribbon is dark green just as the one in the beginning of this thread.
              Cheers, Frank

Hi Darrell sorry for the confusion been quite busy lately, the one i like the most is the second from LAST with the mm on the left. However i must say that another thing that concerns me with these medals is the tie emblem at the bottom of the arc seems to be extending down and sitting onto the rim. These awards have me confused and not like the ones i have. Hope this is of some help.
