Legion Condor Medal Bar

Hello everyone,

I showed you recently one image of this medal bar in the thread Legion Condor ribbon bar.

I would share the medal bar more closely.

It's a bit strange but the blue ribbon of the Long Service Medal have like a gothic letters in white, I watched the ribbon under blacklight and the ribbon doesn't shine.

Interesting that they mounted the 4 and 12 year awards the wrong way round. It's a Junker EKII if I'm not mistaken.

Yes the 12 Year 4 Year medals are mounted in the wrong order but regardless it is an impressive group.

I also like this medal bar and the placement of the Luftwaffe Long Service Decorations, contrary to regulations, is not an issue for me either. Very nice medal bar.

I like your picture of the reverse, that gives us a peek under the backing cloth. That white coloration on the long service ribbons is very strange and I wonder why it is like that or what caused it. Does it look like something was deliberately applied to the ribbon or is it more like just a weird pattern of color loss? Perhaps some sort of adhesive was applied to the backs of those two ribbons in order to keep the backing cloth tacked down?

It is always interesting, too, to see what ribbons were used for the under-wrapping. In this particular case it looks like an all green ribbon of some sort was used for most of the under-wrap. The first thing that comes to mind would be the all green ribbon of the Bronze Ostvolk Decoration second class. However, I'm sure the assembly of this bar predates the institution of the Ostvolk Decorations (July 1942). Therefore the all green ribbon is most likely long service ribbon for one of the three Saxon Duchies (Altenburg, Coburg/Gotha, or Meiningen). In addition to the green ribbon, it looks like ribbon for the Kingdom of Saxony, St. Heinrich Order/Medal was used as under-wrap at both ends of the bar. (I think I see a small piece of it under the EK2 ribbon in addition to the piece under the Spanish Civil War Campaign ribbon. It makes sense that the assemblers were using pieces of Imperial German ribbons for under-wraps since there was no longer a great need for these ribbons in WW2. So they utilized them for a secondary purpose in a waste not/want not environment.

As Tom says the base ribbon isn't the Ostvolk as it has a white weft thread.

As you can see the ribbon Loyal Service Luftwaffe looks like some kind of gothic word, it's very strange, as I say before it doesn't shine under blacklight
