Order of the German Eagle medal

Hello guys. I'd like to ask for some comments about this Eagle order medal. What bothers me that it looks like silver, but has no marking (the bronze might worn off) and the band has a white stripe in the middle (bronze model was supposed to have such band). So what do you think,...is this original?
    thanks

Personally I don't like the ribbons or the complete ensemble. I've never seen both Faithful Service Awards on the same medal/ribbon bar, or the dark edge to the KVK/KVM ribbons. The Faithful Service ribbons also look bad.

              Ian.

I'm not sure I like the look of that bar at all. Could be a recent put together? Others will know more about the Eagle Order than I do.

edit - and as Ian said both grades of the Faithful Service decoration cannot be worn together, only the highest grade is worn.

I would expect it to me maker-marked ? Mine is (21).

I have no problems if medalbar is period as it is, the main question is if all medals are original, expecialy the eagle order medal. Thanks to all and i hope for more comments.

All the ones I have seen are ring marked 21. I have never seen one without the mark.

I don't like the look of this medal bar either. Way too many red flags for me. Seeing both the 1939 KVK w/o Swords and the 1939 War Merit Medal together on the same bar raises suspicion as does seeing both the 40 and 25 Year Faithful Service Decorations. But neither of these two issues disqualify the bar in and of itself. There were actually cases where long-serving civil servants wore two faithful service decorations on their medal bar, paralleling the way in which members of the armed forces wore two Wehrmacht long-service decorations. It was certainly contrary to regulations, in the case of civil Faithful Service Decorations, but it still happened from time to time. And, since both are being worn here, the 40-Year Faithful Service should be placed before the 25. Another issue that raises suspicion is the presence of the Merit Medal to the Order of the German Eagle. This order/medal was instituted specifically so that Germany had an award that could be bestowed on foreign nationals. As such, they were seldom ever awarded to Germans. Even in 1943, the regulations specified that they were only awarded to foreigners. It is also odd that a 1937/1939-type Silver Merit Medal to the Order of the German Eagle is suspended from a ribbon for the 1943-type Bronze Merit Medal to the Order of the German Eagle. I also find it unusual that this guy (who is at least 58 years old during WW2) did absolutely nothing during the First World War, either as a combatant or war participant. None of these issues, taken individually, necessarily mean the bar is fake. But when they are taken together it casts so much doubt on the bar that there is very little chance that it could be real. And, lastly (as Ian mentions) the ribbons on this medal bar all look to be modern-made replacements. As far as I'm concerned, that eliminates any possibility that this bar is legitimate.

                        Best regards,
                        Tom

                          Hello,

This is not a case of the bronze finish being worn off. The fact that the reverse of your medal has Gothic script means that this is a Silver Merit Medal of the 1937/1939-type.
Bronze Merit Medals were not instituted until 1943 and they are only found with Latin script on the reverse. I am leery of your Silver Merit Medal to the Order of the German Eagle. Since your medal purports to be one of the 1937/39-type, I would expect it to be made of genuine silver. There should be markings on the rim of the medal: either '835 PR. Münze' if made by the Prussian/Berlin Mint, or 'Münzamt Wien 835' if made by the Vienna Central Mint. I am not aware of any Silver or Bronze Merit Medals marked to Godet with '21' on the suspension ring. Of course, many of the enameled Orders of the German Eagle were made by Godet and marked accordingly. Many of the 1943-type Bronze Medals of Merit and some of the 1943-type Silver Medals of Merit were marked on the suspension ring with the number '30' for the Vienna Central Mint. Many of the 1943-type Merit Medals were struck in zinc, although some of the Silver Merit Medals were still struck in genuine silver and were marked by the mint on the rim of the medal. Another concern I have with your medal is that the suspension ring looks too large.

                          Best regards,
                          Tom

                            Hi guys.

In my opinion, this medal bar is a FAKE.

Ribbons they are not authentic (Profiles shown ribbons smooth).

As stated by Tom, the ribbon of the medal of the Order of the German Eagle belong to the category of the bronze medal in 1943-1945 (see white center line in the ribbon), however shows a silver medal in legend 1937-1939 in Gothic characters. The silver medal is also false in my opinion for that ring, lack of marking manufacturer (labeling should show the low profile "Munze BERLIN PR 835".

Apart from these details, it should be noted that the Order of the German Eagle to foreign (non-German) except in a few cases was delivered as are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the ReichProtektor of Bohemia / Moravia......The medal bar you show includes medals awarded to German staff clearly so you can not display a medal of the Order of the German Eagle.

In my opinion is FAKE 100% and all I told you Tom is correct

It is also rare that shows two different categories of the same award .... is not logical to see a Cross of Merit and Medal of Merit (Kriegsverdienstkreuz and kriegsverdienstmedaille), nor should show a cross of long years of service to the Administration gold and another silver .... but also, if you look closely on the ribbons, all are smooth profile ... show genuine ribbons rugged profile ... not if I explain well
