Yes Ian and Ron. Unfortunately, I think this is a fake. I believe the original one should be brown-orange! And it is not often seen in sales (Poellath). But you can easily find these light beige Poellath packets everywhere. Most of them are filled with zinc medals sometimes with the modern ribbon.
Thanks to all who have posted, especially Ron for starting off the discussion.
I also have a Carl Poellath Westwall packet that I obtained as a set. The medal itself appears to be the later version. The ribbon that came with this group seems to be a reproduction; it failed the burn test, and glows under UV light. The edges are not looped like the originals.
There are a lot of different forum threads on these Poellath packets, and the consensus seems to be conflicted regarding their authenticity. My example posted features the correct spelling of 'schrobenhausen', but as noted in several threads, many of the packets show the spelling typo of 'schrobenhansen'. As stukapilot suggests, perhaps none are original? I also have a packet with the typo spelling, and though the paper is seemingly identical, the printing is slightly different.
