These are very interesting in the way that they depict the leftover stock shortly after WW2. The big makers like Deumer must have had tons of medals available...

Glad that this board could help confirm your Deumer-made, Silesian Eagle 2. Class. There should be four, small-size rivets on the reverse: two for the crescent and two for the Silesia banner.

      Best regards,
      Tom
Thanks for the additional insight Tom, much appreciated. My second class Silesian Eagle (that supposively came off a Deumer board according to the seller) doesnt have rivets like yours: its the semi-hollow 1 part painted brass type (with silver painted devices) shown at the right of my pict. From what I can gather though Deumer made many types of SEs including an enamelled version and a painted iron version so yours would be the painted/rivetted brass version like the second one from the left but in mint condition

      Best regards & thanks again

          Hi JC,

I agree with you that Deumer had several different variations of the Silesian Eagle, both first and second class. There were single-piece and multi-piece types as well as the enameled versions that you mention. The type you have (semi-hollow, single-piece striking with the silver painted crescent and Silesia banner) is the same exact type as that seen on the Deumer board posted by Chris in post #28. I've no doubt that that is a Deumer-made piece.

          Best regards,
          Tom

            Hi Chris,

These are very interesting, indeed, for the very reason you mention. Some of the nicer boards I've seen over the years have even had scarcer pieces on them such as the Spanish Cross, Mine Rescue Medal, Fritz Todt Prize, Destroyer Badge, or U-boat Badge.

            Best regards,
            Tom

I might be of some help regarding the Silesian Eagle,

I have added some pictures of the one that was on my board. (Sold some time ago)

Backside pictures. The tread on the board was pretty worn, and some medals felt off.

Thanks a lot for the close-up pictures Chris
It is indeed identical to my second class. So Deumer it is !

                    Best regards

                        Very nice Tom.
Would you please post close ups of your westwall if possible.
                        Most appreciated if you would.
Did the Deumer factory survive the war and were they still trading like S and L and many others.

                          Hi Jack,

I think the existence of these Deumer boards is pretty good evidence that the Deumer factory did indeed survive the war and that they had plenty of production stockpiles. As far as I know, Lüdenscheid was not hit with heavy fragmentation or incendiary air raids during the war. The city pretty much escaped devastation, except for some low-level targeting in 1945. Although there were industries present, it probably was not viewed as a priority target by the British or Americans. Also the city had a rather small population and its proximity to Hunswinkel may have been another reason it was not obliterated.

                          Best regards,
                          Tom

                            Hi Jack,

Here is the Westwall from the Deumer board I show in post #1. This is the only picture I have of it on file, so if you want a closer picture I won't be able to get that until the weekend. I also do not want to risk breaking the string tie down by flipping the medal over so I can't get a shot of the reverse.

Here is the Westwall from the Deumer board I show in post #30. This one is suspended from a ribbon for the Lifesaving Medal rather than for the Westwall, possibly due to dwindling stockpiles and making use of whatever remained on hand?

Here is another Deumer Westwall. This one is no longer attached to a Deumer board, but it sure looks like it once was.
