Social Welfare medal 1st class

How did you get the social welfare 1st class and did you have to be a general in order to get it. And does anybody have photos of it.

The "Social Welfare" medal was awarded as such:

1st Class was reserved for General ranks

2nd Class war for Obrest and Obrestleutnant

3rd Class was for Major and Hauptmann

4th Class was for Leutnant and below

Do you know how to receive the award?

All I know iis that it was awarded to all personel who actively participated in Social Welfare assistance programs including the DRK, the WHW, Winterhilf Werk, personel involved with the care of sick and wounded, life savingservices, excluding Fire and Police personel, and the care of German Nationals in foreign countries. I would guess that it was mainly handed out to medical personel, maybe air sea rescue! Hope this helps

I have always thought these medals looked very nice. Along with the Fireman (Firefighters) Medals.

It was also awarded heavily to Red Cross personnel and NSDAP officials.

I don't have an answer for that, I was just writing down what I found by surfing the web. Hopefully some one has an answer??

The one thing that I have discovered that is consistent about the awarding of WWII German awards is inconsistencies .

Yes and not knowing the service history it's kind of hard to say. However I am checking out a couple of other places and will post what I find in the future! Nice medal bar by the way
