Hello Ian, these medals don't come up on the WAF very often and this is just IMO. I've been looking at these lately focusing on the eagle and what I've found is that there have been 2 relative acceptable eagle configurations. The reference material I have shows a little more detail on the wreath and feet. The other reference eagle's head is formed differently but again the wreath and feet have a little more detail. For both where the feet are it isn't cut out and is all one piece. Also with both the enamel is filled to the top of the form. Now I've seen some that look like they have a 2nd class eagle on them which to me would indicate that at times what was available was used to make the medals. With the material I have available to myself I don't like this one "but" I would like to see responses from others who have more knowledge on these than I.
