Cased Westwall Medal

Sorry, but I really don't like the case, especially since the medal and ribbon are of the second 1944 issue with the medal in pot metal and the ribbon a lighter color than the earlier pre-war issue.

Why would they issue this in a case, and why red with blue lining? Neither of these colors are in any way related to the Labor Korps, which did most of the early work on the West Wall. I would expect a brown case with a tan lining similar to the RAD medal cases.

Cheers for posting, the medal is in fantastic condition.. I have seen a few of these appear in that kind of LDO box, and I should have grabbed a similar box marked on the reverse Shutzwall and L/11 with the Deumer logo, but could not justify the funds at the time. So I think the small LDO cased examples have no issues.

I do understand Toms feelings about the first case posted. I often wonder when pieces like this show up, whether they were sold by jewelers as a nice presentation set? I have an ost medal in a weird looking brown case that looks period, but definitely not deemed textbook.

Cases were sometimes made or converted for use with another medal. The below example is a case for the Prussian Order of the Crown period converted to.....Navy Sea Pilot.

My first encounter with a cased Westwall. I too would have expected to see such a rare/ fancy presentation case used for the bronze version instead of the zink version. Your minis are also a treat to see. I saw one (that I missed) a few years back but never saw another one
