    Award Loops for Waffenrock

    Hello,
I have an Army Pioneer Waffenrock with a number of award loops. I was wondering if anyone has an idea of awards might be applied to each loop. The thing that is confusing me the most is that there are two sets of parallel loops. One is high on the breast that is probably for a ribbon bar or close combat bar. The second is lower on the breast with the vertical loops.

    Any information is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Mike

One for ribbon bar and one for medal bar?? Hard to say without seeing it.

      Hi Mike,

Without a name and confirmation of awards, anything you want to put on for display is likely legitimate. There are awards which are commonly seen if you study enough period photos (especially by branch). Sometimes there are clear exceptions where a configuration of loops might indicate a certain combination (IC w/spange, for instance). But there are any number of photos you'll find where less common awards are seen, or sometimes awards you'd not expect. So I think it's best to put on what you prefer. You may hear some collectors tell you it's wrong or historically inaccurate, but most often it's more along the lines of what's more and less likely.

As far as a double row of parallel loops above the left breast pocket, it could be for a double ribbon bar, but that is far more rare - and they'd need to be spaced closer together. It's probably for a ribbon bar on the lower set and a medal bar on the upper.

      Best regards,

      Jason
