Hi Peter,

I did notice that purple ribbon being used as under-wrap. Possibly ribbon for the Luftschutz Decoration or ribbon for the Ernestine House Order of the Saxon Duchies.

Isn´t it unusual to see a extra ribbon like that in a fake bar? I am not a medal bar guy like you but I have never seen that before, have you?

Hi Peter,

Yes, I've seen it before on fake bars and will see it again. All sorts of ribbons were used for under-wrap on original medal bars and some fakers have done the same thing with their modern assemblies.

The medal bar shown below is a modern assembly using modern ribbons, modern mounting components, and a mixture of some original and some fake medals. The ribbons have been artificially-aged in the hope of disguising their newness, but it only makes the bar look even more blatantly fake. Notice that purple ribbon is peeking through, directly above the suspension eyelet on the 1914 EK2 and you can also see some purple under-wrap on the reverse of the Silesian Eagle ribbon.

Besides that,,, who would want a KVK2 with all the finish missing ( not me ), when that Cross is so very common that it's easy to find a nice mint one, or a medal bar with a Cross with full-finish.
