    Westwall Medal

    Hi guys,

Today I got this nice Westwall Medal. It came in a small lot with a few tinnies and an HJ Proficiency Badge.

The medal came with a nice long piece of original ribbon, which is getting harder and harder to find these days.

    Best regards,
    Tom

Very nice Westwall medal Tom. Is it just crimping marks or is it maker marked on the reverse of the ring?

      Regards

      JC

        Hi JC,

It is just soldering seepage from when the suspension ring was brazed shut.

        Thanks and best regards,

                Hi Nick,

Thanks for responding and for posting your "Seafaring is a necessity" tinnies. I see that your one example is by Werner Redo, which is the same maker as mine. Of interest is that the city name in 1935 was Saarlouis. In the following year (1936) the Nazis changed the name to Saarlautern as they did not like the French-sounding Saarlouis.

Here are better pictures of my Seafaring tinnie. On the reverse there is a ghost impression of both the maker mark and the pin crimps. The ghost impressions are flush with the surface. I think this indicates that there was a good bit of material slippage while this particular piece was being struck/compressed.

                Best regards,
                Tom

And here is a really nice thread that shows all the known makers of the Seefahrt ist Not tinnies.

Thanks for getting back to me Tom

Difficult to ID these just by looking at them (or behond my competence anyway!) but yours looks to have very similar features to mine (slightly crooked bunker perspective, eagle and tools' details, attachement ring to medal) but since I dont see the ring on mine I was hoping a marking on yours could have been an indication

                    Thanks again

                    JC

                      Hi JC,

Very nice Westwall parade mount that you have there. Thanks for posting it.

I agree that yours looks very similar if not identical to mine. In most cases, though, it is just about impossible to ID a maker on these medals since most were never marked. The only ones I can really ID without any difficulty would be the ones by Wilhelm Deumer of Lüdenscheid.

                      Best regards,
                      Tom

                        Very nice!

Nice seeing these in that condition with the ribbon.
