Czech entry medal with maker mark

    Hi,

Some basic medals have been offered to me, all the others of which appear to be without issue. This 1 October medal has me stumped though. I only have the one obverse pic, which shows an incuse relief maker mark of 18 or 19 however, all my searching has not turned up a similarly marked example.

    Any help appreciated.

    Regards
    Mike

Thanks Mike for showing us this piece.
For me is the first time I see a Flower war Medal marked "18" on the ring.

The few marked are usually marked with L/..., never seen one like your.

    My books:

    - THE WEHRPAß & SOLDBUCH OF THE WH
    - THE SS TK RING
    - THE ITALIAN-GERMAN MEDAL
    - THE ANTI PARTISAN BADGE
    - THE AWARDS OF THE LW

    and more!

Thanks for the comments so far. I managed to get hold of a pic of the reverse. The little swastikas look a bit funky?

          Hi Mike,

Very nice medal. The marking does look like an '18' Karl Wurster, but I see, too, how it could really be a '19' E. Ferd Wiedmann. I'm actually leaning towards '19'.

But, one way or the other, an excellent find.

          Best regards,
          Tom

I actually have a Czech Annexation Medal in a marked packet to E. Ferd Wiedmann. I am going to pull it out and see if the details match.

            Best regards,

Okay! I really didn't help matters. Here is my Czech Annexation Medal that came in an E. Ferd Wiedmann packet. The medal is not marked on the ring so I cannot be absolutely sure this medal was made by Wiedmann, although this is how it came to me.

              Best regards,
              Tom

Here is a closer look of the medal that came in the Wiedmann packet. There is no marking on the ring, but the ring has been brazed closed and there is excess seepage from the braze that is present on the suspension ring.

In comparing Mike's maker-marked example with the medal I have from the Wiedmann-marked packet, the medals look similar in many respects. However, there are too many noticeable differences, so it is obvious that each medal was struck from a different die.

So, unfortunately, I have learned nothing new: Mike's medal is either a marked Wurster or a marked Wiedmann (depending upon whether the number is an '18' or '19'. If Mike's medal is a Wiedmann '19', then I would have to conclude that my medal is mismatched to the Wiedmann packet.

                  Best regards,
                  Tom

                    Hi Mike,

I was wondering if your Czech Annexation Medal has a split suspension ring or is it brazed shut?

                    Thank you & best regards,
                    Tom

                      Hi Tom,

This medal, along with a few others, are only on offer to me at the moment. Great question re whether the ribbon ring is closed (original to the medal) or open (possible replacement). If I get hold of it, I'll be able to answer that question and post some clear scans.

Many thanks to all for your replies. At least it has not turned out to be a recent obvious repro!

                      Regards

A quick update, I've had word (and seen a smallish pic) from the seller that the ribbon loop is brazed closed, so unlikely that this is some sort of replacement ribbon loop. I won't be able to advise for quite some time as to whether it is marked 18 or 19 (I lean towards 18).

                        Regards

Now that I have it in hand, it's an incuse-relief 19.
