Hi Val, it is a second class following the 1943 regulation.
The case as far as I know has the writing of the 1939-1943 period.

Looks like a very nice set.

Name is: Deutsche Adlerorden 2. Klasse mit Schwerter

    My books:

    - THE WEHRPAß & SOLDBUCH OF THE WH
    - THE SS TK RING
    - THE ITALIAN-GERMAN MEDAL
    - THE ANTI PARTISAN BADGE
    - THE AWARDS OF THE LW

    and more!

Val, Antonio is partly correct, but it's actually exactly what it says on the lid of the case (Verdienstkreuz 1.Stufe+ Bruststern) of 1937-43 regulations. It's quite unusual to see an L/50 marked DAO

      cheers

Antonio, I missed the swords and you're right, it's the 1939 regulation.

        cheers

Are you sure that it has been made during 1943 and not before (1939-1943) matching the iscription on the case? I read on Aisby book that the mm L/50 was introduced before 1943. Is that right?

Yes. As far as I know double marked pieces were all after 1943. But you can find some of them in cases like your with 1939-1943 inscription.

Val, my comment was based on the assumption the the crosses belong to the case. Had the neckcross been marked "900" on the ring and possibly "1" on the top of the fan, it would most probably have been produced 1939-42, as the swords were introduced 1939. A neckcross with "900"+ "21" on the ring and a possible "3" on the top of the fan would indicate 1942-45.

This cross is marked L/50 and you're correct, the LDO didn't come into existence before spring 1941, hence these pieces were produced after that date. However I don't think there's any way to differentiate them from a 1942-45 issue, due to their lack of other markings. I've got a 3.Stufe also marked with L/50 only. It should be noted that the various markings found on DAO's has nothing to do with the forementioned regulations.

                cheers
                Peter
