the medal looks to be original,as for the ribbon iam not so sure could be postwar.as for the maker i have no idea could do with some better pics,here is a pic of mine
Thank you. It would seem to me, I´d say it´s tombak. But this heavy silver washing is found often in magnetic crosses too.
Tomorrow I´ll post better pictures of my new cross and maybe you can say who was the maker.
I am sitting at the airport right now so do not have the best look at the pictures but will offer my opinion.
First off, I did not like it even before these new photographs, and now with them I think it confirms what I thought.
Reasons... the finish, I've never seen a "german silver" example, as they usually have a frosty white finish. Even if worn, some areas would show finish still. I also see pitting in the arms, and now with the seam we can only believe it is a cast example. Some other minor details like the pebbling in the inner circle and the top loop seems wrong.
Again, I stress I have never seen or heard of a "german silver" 18 year cross, so if this is a variant I am unaware of - awesome, I love learning!
