    Memel Medal - narrow ribbon?

    Hi Everyone.

This Memel medal bothers me a bit. How often do you see a Memel medal with a narrow ribbon? The bar pin is even longer for the wider ribbon. The thread that holds the bar pin in place glows like a Christmas tree and is also sewn where the ribbon begins to taper off. The ribbon seems okay, but I would like some input from you folks as to the size of the ribbon itself.

When I see things which do not seem to look right, then I have to question the entire piece. The medal looks okay to me. I can't find those tiny initials though. I do have a ring stamp, #16.

    What say you?

    Thanks,

    Dan.

      You're 9 's are different sizes ?

I'm not a firm believer in the 'm-M' theory or the acorn's, I just don't know. It's a little unconventional that the ribbon is smaller ?

      Interesting that it's mm.

I'll watch this thread with interest, and let the more conversed speak.

Sorry but IMO that is fake. You should not have that kind of detail on the obverse of original flowers wars medals. The faces in particular on the two men give this one away. If its yours send it back if not do not buy!

ps that ribbon is also no good. Modern construction, look at the edges no clear loops.

Here is a close-up of the obverse. I am putting up these close-ups just to be sure.

          Thanks again,

          Dan.

I absolutely agree. After comparing other Flowers medals with this Memel piece, this one is fake.

Honestly, I had no idea there were Memel fakes out there. A word to the wise, "When in doubt, throw it out."

Thanks for the observations, all of you.

              Gratefully,

              Dan.

                I agree also

Yes, this is a fairly well known fake.

                  George,

Thanks for the confirmation. I was afraid there was something not right but wanted to be sure.

                  All the best,

                  Dan.

Patrick is right. The faces are the main giveaway on these.

Sorry, but my opinion that it is a fake.

I have to concur. The faces on the obverse and the depth and sharp, crisp detail are a give away. The flower wars medals all had much softer features.

                            Big Nose

This particular fake is known as 'Big Nose' in some circles as the two figures have, well, big noses.

One of the easiest fake medals to spot when you know.

Also found in the Czech and Austrian Occupation versions.

                            Regards ...

Why does it seem that the Memel is so far hard to find?
