    Africa Medal ?

Gentlemen, I was wondering what the view is on the attached medal please.

The tiny mound I've highlighted made me wonder if it's legitimate Type 1 ? Sadly I don't have a photo of the other side.

    Cheers in advance, Ian.

Hi Ian, from only this picture I would pass on it.
The medals type 1, 2, 3 and 4 were all die struck and I see other dots on the right of the crocodile head. These let me think it could be a cast one. Furthermore is is completely off-center with a very ugly rim (up is thin and down is very large).

    My books:

    - THE WEHRPAß & SOLDBUCH OF THE WH
    - THE SS TK RING
    - THE ITALIAN-GERMAN MEDAL
    - THE ANTI PARTISAN BADGE
    - THE AWARDS OF THE LW

    and more!

        Great eye!
I would say this is a new fake on the market...

Clearly the same medal. And that shows how important it is to have good pics of medals before bying.
With the small pic in this thread people can be fooled, but with the big pics Totenhead posted in the other thread you can see all the small pockmarks from the casting.

So good call on the small pic Antonio.

Thanks for that gentlemen ... it was the blip that made me question if it was a casting.

An Italian German Afrika Korps campaign medal, slightly rough finnish but has probably been recovered from the freighter sunk in Benghazi harbour, but still good condition
I cropped and enlarged the image as much as I could, obviously on Ebay they couldn't show the swastika.

              Cheers, Ian.

The story is just as bad as the ribbon.

He is also selling a fake Air Crew Europe Star "which Uncle acquired from an old Tailors shop cheaply, he was never sure if it was original or not?"

He sold quite a lot of medals a few months ago including an Afrika Medal, Ostvolk 1st & 2nd Classes, Spanish Civil War Medal an Azad Hind and others that slip my memory ALL of which had no swastika on them of course I had kept the images but then deleted them ... I'm sure they all 'sold' at the time.

Also I think http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/dugout1418 and http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/unclesloft2013 are the same person ... they both come from Suffolk, both have similar items closing at the same time and did have the same last time he was selling 'his uncles medals' off.

I saw the Afrika medal on there about a month ago, I emailed and asked for better pictures hence the pictures I posted on here.
