    Memellandes... Strike 2 ???

    Hi

I posted a Memellandes medal I acquired in the mid 70's earlier this year on this forum and was told it was a repro. I recently found the attached piece to replace it and I hope I did better...
To me it looks about the same as the copy except the reverse detail isnt as deep and the "slanted G" but they probably make "Slanted G" copies too nowadays. My camera is like me: old so the picts arent the best but to me it looks as if there is a tiny mark (initials?) under the wreath on the reverse but I cant make it out so it could be also be just a flaw/scratch

Thank you in advance for your opinions

JC, you did well because it is a good Memell with H.C. initials on the wreath. I´m sure guys will tell you the exact specification.

Don't worry, you have a nice original Slanted G type 1 or "29" (29 is the number of the maker).

      My books:

      - THE WEHRPAß & SOLDBUCH OF THE WH
      - THE SS TK RING
      - THE ITALIAN-GERMAN MEDAL
      - THE ANTI PARTISAN BADGE
      - THE AWARDS OF THE LW

      and more!

          Great news!

Thank you very much for your help Joseph , Antonio and Peppe864, much appreciated.

I wanted to wait for the english edition of Antonio's Memel Medal book be available to have a clue at what to look for (or avoid) but that annoying little hole (were the fake used to be) in my collection has bothered me ever since my previous example was IDd as a fake. Since Memel medals dissapear very quickly (when they show up) I took a chance and I just got lucky.

So, to make sure I have my ducks in a row...From what I gather from your responses the piece/ribbon is an accepted original produced by "Hauptmunzamt Berlin" (Maker 29) and it is indeed marked on the reverse but the tiny initials (HC?) are not a maker's mark or the designer's intials (if I remember correctly RPT and "Tag der Arbeit" badges were designed by "RK") but rather the initials of the engraver like the "HC" found on some Prague castle bars ?

Now that I've been lucky once lets hope my luck holds until I can find a single drapery mount version of the Memel to go with my drapery flower campaign set

Thanks again for your help gentlemen

          JC

Yes, this is the only Memel that has the "HC" engraved on its reverse.
You can find the letters "RK" embossed only in the Petz & Lorenz Memels... But you will find all these info on the upcoming book...
