For those of you that know these things.

What is the proper way to have this medal mounted on a bar.

Croc up?

Arc up?

Or

Does it really matter?

The bar I have is Croc up.

Following the rules the front side of the medal is the one with the crocodile ("Schwert und Spaten" of 1942 Heft 10, p.109).
The upcoming book will cover the rules and the criteria too.

I forgot to say that the italians didn't have rules for wearing the medal, because it was never instituted (only the ribbon was instituted); the germans on period pictures wear the medal in both ways, even if the front side was the one with the croc. Wearing rules for the ribbon only were not present, this is the reason why in some rare cases we can see the ribbon on second button hole as for an EKII. The ribbon on the ribbon bar follow rhe rules for a foreign awards placed after all the german medals and orders.

If you are Italian the green stripe is first.

Makes sense to me.

Yes, this is what I would expect to see also but I have examples of both on German ribbon bars!

No guys, you are mistaken.
Rules and design of the medal are clear, what a soldier decided to do, is another thing.
Ribbon has green first and the obverse is the side with the croc, even in OKW rules the design is done in this way.

That's it. In my experience that has "almost" every soldier for himself decided how he wants to wear the medal or even the ribbon.
There are also some interesting variations seen in wedding portraits.
